If you’re considering microblading, it’s natural to want to understand what actually happens during the appointment. Knowing the process ahead of time can help you feel more prepared, comfortable, and confident in your decision.
This page walks you through what to expect during a microblading session - from consultation to aftercare - with a focus on thoughtful planning, comfort, and natural-looking results.
Consultation and Brow Design
Every microblading appointment begins with a consultation.
This is where we talk through:
your brow concerns and goals
what you like and dislike about your current brows
your lifestyle, makeup habits, and long-term expectations
Your natural brow shape, facial structure, skin type, and coloring are all carefully considered. The goal is not to impose a trendy brow, but to design something that feels balanced, familiar, and suited to your face.
Nothing moves forward until the shape feels right to you.
Pigment Selection
Choosing the right pigment is an important part of creating brows that heal naturally.
Pigment selection is based on:
your natural brow hair color
skin tone and undertones
how pigment typically heals in the skin
My approach is intentionally conservative. Colors are chosen to heal soft and natural, with long-term aging in mind rather than immediate boldness.
Comfort and Numbing
Before microblading begins, a topical numbing cream is applied to help reduce sensitivity. Additional numbing may be used throughout the appointment as needed.
Everyone experiences sensation differently, and comfort is always monitored during the process. If you have known sensitivities to numbing agents, this should be discussed prior to your appointment so appropriate adjustments can be made.
Brow Mapping and Planning
Before any pigment is placed, your brows are carefully mapped and measured.
Brow mapping helps determine:
placement
balance
proportion
This step ensures the brows work with your facial features rather than against them. Natural asymmetry is respected, and the goal is harmony rather than forced symmetry.
The Microblading Process
Once the design is approved, microblading begins.
Using a manual tool, fine hair-like strokes are created in the skin, and pigment is gently deposited. Each stroke is placed with intention to mimic the direction, spacing, and softness of natural brow hair.
This process requires patience and precision. The goal is subtle enhancement, not density or heaviness.
Reviewing and Refining
After the initial pass, the brows are reviewed together. Small refinements may be made to improve balance or softness while keeping the overall look natural.
This step ensures the result feels intentional and complete before moving into healing.
Aftercare and Healing Guidance
At the end of your appointment, you’ll receive detailed aftercare instructions.
These typically include:
keeping the area clean
avoiding excess moisture and friction
allowing the skin to heal naturally
Following aftercare carefully plays a significant role in how your brows heal and how pigment settles over time.
The Follow-Up Appointment
Microblading is typically completed over two sessions.
A follow-up appointment is scheduled several weeks after the initial procedure. This allows healed results to be evaluated and refined as needed for balance and longevity.
Long-Term Expectations
Microblading is a form of permanent cosmetic tattooing designed to heal softly and age gradually. Over time, pigment will fade and soften, and maintenance appointments may be desired depending on skin type, lifestyle, and personal preference.
Results are meant to look natural and lived-in, not static or bold.
Final Thoughts
Microblading is not just about the procedure itself - it’s about planning, communication, and restraint. When approached thoughtfully, it can enhance your brows in a way that feels subtle, balanced, and true to you.
If you’re still deciding whether microblading is right for you, learning about the process is an important step toward making a confident, informed choice.
